{09feb2012: Snowmagged continues!}

(Ok really it all melted the weekend after it started, but I'm never THAT caught up on my posts.)
After Darwn's epic snowman day, the snow slowed down but the next day an ice storm hit. So all our soft fluffy (sometimes slushy) snow, got topped with a layer of hard ice. It's not so bad walking down (and up) hills in snow... trying to do it on ice though was a bit nerve wracking. We ended up staying home from work that day and bundled up on the couch. Later in the afternoon as the frozen rain and snow stopped we took Darwin out for a walk.

There's a trail behind some of the houses/apartments near our place and we decided to check it out (I only go on it when Jason's with us 'cause I'm a chicken).

While we were out we decided to stop by the grocery store. Jason ran in while I waited outside with Darwin, then we headed over to a park to let Darwin run around a bit. There were a few other dogs there off leash who checked Darwin out. She was nervous about the ice, especially when her paws broke through it so she didn't do much running around so we headed home.

We walked through one more park and let her off leash since no one was around and out of no where a little Bulldog ran up to Darwin to play. I was in heaven. Didn't you know my dream is for Darwin to become bff's with an English Bulldog at daycare and for me to catch them napping together at daycare (or for Darwin to get an English Bulldog brother). And guess what! Darwin played back! At least for a little while.

While they may not be bff's and planning sleepovers, it was still so fun to see.
And check out the backdrop to this encounter.

Hello Seattle! :)

{30jan2012: Mr Chewy}

We were contacted by someone at Mr Chewy asking us if we'd be interested in a $50 coupon to try out their website. I'm always happy to do a review and test things out, and who can say no to free dog stuff?
I was happy to see the variety of dog food brands they offer, and was surprised to see that their prices were a little cheaper than Petflow. (I've never used Petflow, but I did look into their service a while back.) Mr Chewy had the brand of kibble Darwin eats, Acana Pacifica, but they were out of the big bag. I decided to get the medium sized bag (15.4lbs) and get some treats as well. I figured since we rarely get Darwin bully sticks (they are so stinky), I'd get her some from Mr Chewy as a special treat.
I had placed the order on the Monday of Snowmaggedon and got an email later that night about it being shipped. (They offer free 1-2 day delivery for orders over $49, and their regular shipping price is a flat $4.95.) Then Snowmaggedon hit so I wasn't surprised that there was a delay in delivery. We weren't in a rush to receive our order so it wasn't a big deal, but I think if I had actually paid with my own money (not a coupon) then I would have been slightly annoyed.
Our order came last Tuesday and Darwin was very happy with her purchases.

{I smell something good!!!!}

{No more pictures! I want my treat!}

{Finally!!}

{nom nom nom nom nom}

Another great thing about Mr Chewy is that they also have a referral program. If you place an order and use the code DARW7318 you'll get 10% off your first order and they'll donate $10 to charity.

You can either choose from:
Best Friends Animal Society
Bideawee
or
North Shore Animal League America
Or you can choose to split your donation among the three.

Overall I'd say Mr Chewy is a great online pet supply store. I was going to say I only wish they sold pet toys as well, but come to think of it, Darwin has more than enough toys, and another place to buy toys for Darwin would be a bad thing. haha

***Disclaimer: We were given a coupon to review  Mr Chewy. All reviews and opinions are 100% our own.

{26jan2012: more snowmaggedon 2012}

So the start of snowmaggedon wasn't too bad. By Monday temperatures rose a bit and some of the snow melted. It was predicted that the worst of it would hit Tuesday night. And it did. While it wasn't the 12+ inches originally forecasted, we did get at least 4inches, which for Seattle is a lot.
Since we knew it was going to be bad, Jason and I decided to walk to work on Wednesday and we figured we'd take Darwin with us because she'd like the snowy walk.

It was still coming down on our way in, and by the time we made it to the office my eyeliner and mascara was all over my face. Not a good look. hahah
We walked back through the Seattle Center and thew snowballs again.

While Jason was throwing snowballs and I was taking pictures, someone from a local news channel stopped by and asked if he could take some pictures of Darwin as well. You can see his pictures here. He got some fun shots!
There weren't many people out braving the cold like we were so we let Darwin walk off leash through parts of the center.

{more snowballs?!}

We still had a mile or so left to get to the office so we kept moving on and made one last stop on the pier by the office for more snowball fun.

No one else showed up for work so after a couple hours we called it a day and headed home. I was starving, and the dog friendly bar in our neighborhood wasn't open yet so we dropped Darwin off at home then headed out to the Mexican restaurant down the hill. There was a bus stuck on the hill when we went in, as and we were eating another bus truck showed up to help get it back down. It was entertaining to watch this worker in an orange vest pushing the bus down the hill (not so hard to push it down a hill, but once it got to the flat part, he couldn't budge it) and finally a department of transportation truck had to come and push it out of the intersection.

During that entertainment, Jason and I decided to build Darwin a snowman with an edible face. We stopped at the market to get some of her favorite foods. Then we got home, went up to the roof and built Darwin's snowman.

{mmmm he looks so delicious!}

After eating his bacon mouth, Jason popped out his tomato eyes.

Darwin usually just gets a slice of tomato when we give her some. She wasn't sure what to do with a whole one. She kept taking tiny nibbles out of it til she figured out what it was and that she could eat the whole thing.

Last she got Mr Snowman's apple nose.

And this was Mr Snowman's face at the end.
