{25oct2011: Deception Pass}

Last month we had plans to check out Whidbey Island up north. We didn't plan very well and didn't get there.
We did make it to Deception Pass and thought we'd hike through a couple trails. The weather was supposed to be cold and rainy, but it was surprisingly clear blue skies and a little warm. We took a trail that leads to Rosario Beach.

I ran ahead of Darwin and Jason and was hiding off the trail waiting for Darwin to find me, when she ran pass me and scared the bejeezus out of this couple walking down the trail. Oops. They laughed about it though. Whew.

It was a short "hike" to the beach.

And it was super windy.
After the beach loop we followed the trail back the way we came planning to go down another trail heading the opposite way.
In the short time it took us to get to the start of the trail and head towards the other one, dark clouds rolled in.
By the time we got to the start of the next trail it was raining cats and dogs. Such a heavy heavy downpour, and Miss Darwin hates the rain so we decided to skip the second trail and do it another time.
Instead we headed down into Oak Harbor and tried out some beers at Flyers. :)

*** On a completely unrelated note, HAPPY 4th BIRTHDAY to my nephew Caden!!

  3. Awesome beach. It's been a long time since we went to Deception Pass. Darwin looks happy. Good those people had a sense of humor. Those clouds were DARK. Flyers sounds like a good option with the rain and all.

  9. Hi Brooke, it's been a zillion years since my dad and mom went through Deception Pass. Now that they've seen the beach and trails, perhaps they'll stop and take us down to the beach or along the trails.

  10. Hi Darwin, looks like a great walk even if it was windy. Fab photos. Mum says you sure are a sweetie pie. Did you get to go inside when your mum and dad had a drink at the end of the walk? No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

  11. Oh Darwin, you must really have scared that couple, I know for a fact because when it happens I do that also!!! People usually get so scared by us, isn't it so damn unfair :(?
    We are such nice creatures!!!
Your walk looked very nice - you need to go back to complete it.. third time will be the good one to do all the way!
Those clouds were really black... where did you stay while your humans stopped at the pub?
You like beer too, did they take some out for you?
It was a pity for the rain, but it must have been really a nice day for you three!
    Ciao Lucille

  12. Hey, we were going to check out Flyers. We ran into the brother of the brewer in Hawaii, of all places. He highly recommended their beer. Is it worth the drive? ...and great picture of that storm!

  13. Looks like a lovely trail! When you got down to the beach area did Darwin go in? Does she like the water? Reggie has to be coaxed in but he won't stay for long.

  14. Happy Birthday to Caden! Neato photos...funny about scaring that couple. BOL.

Darwin was the hula girl in the costume contest we had for MangoMinster, right?? And didn't YOU, her mama cry "Foul!" claiming the big pooches were being discriminated against?? Well guess what...In a verrrrrrry late effort to right that wrong, we will be sending Miss D. a special prize that screamed "BIG DOG" at us. Let us know when she gets it, okey dokey?!
